After visiting the city market (which was really amazing – we’re going back there tomorrow) we went to the Southend Brewery for dinner. I can’t remember the last time any food tasted that good! We both went for typical southern classics, since that’s what Charleston is known for, and we didn’t regret it. They also make their own beer, and their seasonal winter wheat was really delicious.
I got “The Classic” Southern Chicken Fried Steak with country gravy, mashed potatoes and vegetables (yeah, I looked up the menu online, just so that I would get it right).
And Andy had the Shrimp and Grits with tomatoes, scallions and tasso ham. The sauce was amazing!
Oh my, I am hungry again just looking at the pictures. We ended up mostly sharing our dishes, and we both agreed that they were amazing. We finished off Andy’s shrimp and grits (I think that was my favorite), and we still have half of my dinner left over for breakfast tomorrow. We were lucky enough to get a hotel room with a fridge and a microwave so we saw no reason to waste our food, hehe.
Right now we’re back at the hotel, but it’s just a little past 8 o’clock so we’re soon headed back out downtown. We actually just found out that a couple of friends of ours (who live in North Carolina) happened to be in Charleston for the weekend, so we are hoping to meet up with them for a couple of beer later on tonight.
