So I had to make this post because every single thing I have eaten while we’ve been in Charleston has been absolutely mouthwatering. I only wish we had more time here to try out different restaurants.
Anyway, yesterday we decided to sleep in an extra hour instead of eating breakfast at the hotel, so when we woke up we ate the leftovers of my chicken fried steak from the day before. It was still delicious.
After walking around downtown for about three hours we stopped at a chocolate store and bought a little bit of everything. Then we sat in the White Point Garden and ate almost all of it, hehe.
For “lunch” (which ended up being at 4:30) we went to Hominy Grill to try out another couple of southern specialties. Since it was getting close to dinner time we only got two appetizers to share.
We got fried green tomatoes with ranch dressing and okra & shrimp beignets with salsa & cilantro-lime sour cream. I realize they don’t look very appetizing, but it was really good (especially the tomatoes).
Afterwards we went back to the hotel for a short break and to change clothes before going out for dinner and drinks. Since we’re in a city by the ocean we figured we needed to eat some good seafood before we go back home. So we went to Charleston Crab House for crab and shellfish. Neither one of us had ever eaten oysters, so we decided to give them a go. I wasn’t brave enough for raw ones, though, so we got fried buffalo oysters as an appetizer and ended up really liking them.
For dinner we got a large platter with steamed shrimp, snow crab legs, dungeness crab legs, mussels, sausage, potatoes, onion and corn-on-the-cob in a garlic scampi. It was an overwhelming amount.
We even got a little bit extra from the chef, so we were completely stuffed by the time we were done.
Whew. That’s a lot of food pictures in one post. After dinner we headed over to a bar with a good live band and with about 20 different types of fruity, alcoholic slushies. Just my kind of place!
